| Programming the ASAP Dispatcher DP1 |
| The ASAP Dispatcher DP1 has many features
which can be used to customize its operation. Many of these features have either feature settings or timing parameters associated directly with their operation. Therefore, read the following sections carefully to obtain the best results when programming. |
| Connect the ASAP Dispatcher DP1 as shown, using a tone phone (rotary/pulse dialing phones cannot program the ASAP Dispatcher DP1). |
|
| To enter the programming mode, take the phone
off-hook. Once a programming entry is made, the Dispatcher DP1 allows 8 seconds between
tone commands before exiting the programming mode. Therefore, it would be beneficial to
write down all programming changes before entering the programming mode. Once a complete tone command is entered, it must be followed by the * key, which stores it into memory. After you enter the * key, the Dispatcher DP1 will beep 3 times for correct entries (invalid entries produce a single tone). You can continue with changing other features or feature settings as needed for your application. When all programming changes are complete, simply hang up the phone and the Dispatcher is set for the selected options. |

| Dispatcher DP1 Operation |
| This feature turns theDispatcher DP1 ON or
OFF. When this feature is turned OFF, the Dispatcher DP1 will not respond to any phone call or tone command (even if the Stand-By Mode is activated). The factory setting for Dispatcher DP1 Operation feature is ON. |
|
| Emergency Call Override |
| This feature works in conjunction with the
ASAP104. When this feature is turned OFF, the Dispatcher DP1 will ignore the ASAP104 disconnect tone to terminate the call at the remote location. When this feature is turned ON, it allows the Primary port of an ASAP104 to interrupt a call that is in process on another port (when the call is initiated by the Dispatcher DP1). Operation of this feature is provided through the Primary port and can be set up for Automatic or Manual operation as previously described in "Using the ASAP Dispatcher DP1." The factory setting for Emergency Call Override feature is ON. |
|
| Call Hold |
| This feature allows the Dispatcher DP1 to
place the calling device on hold after it dials a phone number. (This allows the
Dispatcher DP1 to restrict the calling device from hearing the call routing process.) The
Dispatcher DP1 then transmits a series of tones and listens for the answer tone from the
called device. Once it receives the answer tone, it stops sending tones and releases the
line to the calling device. If the dialed number is busy or disconnected, the Dispatcher
DP1 will also release control of the line. With the Call Hold feature OFF, the calling device will have control of the call. The Dispatcher DP1will simply produce the selected tones as programmed. The factory setting for Call Hold feature is ON. |
|
| Answer Tone Type |
| This feature sets the Dispatcher DP1 to
detect the tone produced by a modem answering a call. This tone allows the Dispatcher DP1
to disconnect itself from the call so the modems can begin their communication protocols.
The tones are as follows: 2225 Hz (+/- 50 Hz) for
modems in the U.S. The factory setting for Answer Tone Type is 0 for the U.S. answer tone. |
|
| Stand-By Mode |
|
|
| Stand-By Mode Tone Selection |
| This feature sets the Dispatcher DP1 to
transmit a tone on a single call other than the tone set in Tone Selection. With the Stand-By Mode ON, the Dispatcher DP1 can be activated by entering # # at the end of a dialing string and will produce the selected tone according to the single digit following # # (regardless of the setting in Tone Selection). Example: A phone number 7 5 1 7 0 0 0 0 # # 3 will transmit a series of 1300Hz tones. If the last digit (3) is omitted, the tone selected from the previous call will be transmitted. A single digit will assign tone transmission as follows:
The factory setting for Stand-By Mode Tone Selection is ON. |
|
| Busy Tone Detection |
| This feature allows the Dispatcher DP1 to
prematurely terminate a call if it detects a busy tone. When this occurs, all timers will
zero out and be set for the modem to re-dial. If the Busy Tone Detection feature is turned OFF, you must set the Dispatcher DP1 to stop transmitting tones and drop the line 5 seconds before the connected device's time-out period expires. Example: A modem dials a phone number through the Dispatcher DP1 and if the modem stays on-line 45 seconds, the Dispatcher DP1 should stay on-line for 40 seconds of the call. This allows the Dispatcher DP1 to have time to route a call to the proper device. To calculate the time on-line, use the following formula: (Tone Time + Silence Time) x Number of Tones + Tone Delay = time on-line The factory setting for Busy Tone Detection feature is ON. |
|
| Busy Tone Type |
| This feature sets the Dispatcher DP1 to
detect a standard busy tone or the reorder tone (twice as fast as a busy tone). If the Busy Tone Type is turned ON, the Dispatcher DP1 will detect the standard busy tone and the reorder tone. If the Busy Tone Type is turned OFF, the Dispatcher DP1 will only detect the standard busy tone. The factory setting for Busy Tone Type is ON. |
|
| Tone Time |
| This feature setting defines the duration of
each tone the Dispatcher DP1 transmits. The factory preset time is 0.5 seconds, but you
can select a tone duration from 0.5 seconds up to 9.9 seconds. The first digit you enter is equal to seconds, and the second digit equals tenths of a second. For example, an entry of 1 5 changes the Tone Time to 1.5 seconds. An entry of 3 5 changes the Tone Time to 3.5 seconds. To change this feature, perform the following steps: |
|
| Silence Time |
| This feature setting defines the duration of
silence between each tone the Dispatcher DP1 transmits. The factory preset time is 1.5
seconds, but you can select a time from 1.0 seconds up to 9.9 seconds. The first digit you enter is equal to seconds, and the second digit equals tenths of a second. For example, an entry of 1 0 changes the Silence Time to 1.0 seconds. An entry of 3 5 changes the Silence Time to 3.5 seconds. To change this feature, perform the following steps: |
|
| Number of Tones |
| This feature setting defines the number of
tones that the Dispatcher DP1 transmits. The factory preset Number of Tones is 10, but you
can select from 5 to 99. You must enter 2 digits per entry. If the entry is less than 10, enter 0 as the first digit. An entry of 0 9 sets the Number of Tones to 9. An entry of 5 0 sets the Number of Tones to 50. To change this feature, perform the following steps: |
|
| Tone Delay |
| This feature setting defines the time the
Dispatcher DP1 waits to transmit tones after a phone number is dialed. The Dispatcher DP1
begins this timer after a telephone device dials the last digit of a phone number. Once
this timer expires, the Dispatcher DP1 begins transmitting tones. The factory preset time
is 3 seconds, but you can select a time from 0.5 seconds up to 9.9 seconds. The first digit you enter is equal to seconds, and the second digit equals tenths of a second. For example, an entry 2 0 of changes the Tone Delay to 2.0 seconds. An entry of 5 0 changes the Tone Delay to 5.0 seconds. To change this feature, perform the following steps: |
|
| Emergency Call Override Disconnect Time |
| This feature setting defines the length of
time that the Dispatcher DP1 disconnects after it receives an Emergency Override Tone from
the ASAP104 (See Emergency Call Override). The factory preset time is 2.5 seconds, but you
can select a time from 0.5 seconds up to 9.9 seconds. (The telephone company typically
recognizes 1.5 seconds as a disconnected call.) The first digit you enter is equal to seconds, and the second digit equals tenths of a second. For example, an entry of 2 0 changes the Emergency Call Override Disconnect Time to 2.0 seconds. An entry of 5 0 changes the Emergency Call Override Disconnect Time to 5.0 seconds. To change this feature, perform the following steps: |
|
| Tone Selection |
This feature setting defines the tone that
the Dispatcher DP1 transmits. The factory preset tone is
9 - 2225 Hz (U.S. Answer Tone), but you can select from other tones
as follows:
